Mr. Sangster is currently in his 17th year of teaching and 12th year at Bedford Academy. Born and raised in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Jeff graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education in 1996. Throughout his undergraduate years he was a member of the Men’s Volleyball Club and was selected by the players and coaches to be team Captain. Upon graduation from Acadia, he began his teaching career at Somerset Academy, a Primary to Grade Eight private school in Markham, Ontario. During his 5 years at Somerset, Jeff was the Grade Eight homeroom teacher, Physical Education teacher and Athletics Director. In that period of time, he taught Mathematics, History and Geography to Grades Seven and Eight, as well as Physical Education to students from Junior Primary to Grade Eight. Jeff also served two terms as President of the Small Schools Athletic Federation in Toronto while teaching at Somerset. At the school graduation ceremonies in the spring of 2004, The Somerset Academy Jeff Sangster Sports Wall of Fame was created to honour Jeff for his contributions and leadership within the Athletic Department. To this date, there have been four student athletes honoured with induction onto the Wall of Fame.
Jeff decided to return home to Nova Scotia and began teaching at Bedford Academy in the fall of 2004. Since arriving at Bedford Academy, Jeff's primary focus became the development of the Junior High Program. The Junior High Program became a reality with the construction of South Wing and Academy Hall in 2005. Jeff assumed the role of Grade Nine homeroom teacher and soon moved onto the role of Junior High Head in 2007. Since its inception, the Junior High Program’s mandate has been students, parents and teachers all working together towards common goals. Jeff firmly believes that student success can only be achieved through such collaboration and the graduates of Bedford Academy have continued to be greatly influenced by the goal setting approach. These Academy students have gone on to receive entrance scholarships and bursaries to both private high schools and universities. His students look back on their time at Bedford Academy as the foundation for their academic success and personal growth. Jeff’s sincere belief in every student and the team approach initiated at Bedford Academy has made anything possible for his students. Jeff is a lifelong Edmonton Oilers fan who resides in Bedford with his wife, daughter and golden retriever.
